When a child’s run down

See other campaigns ….

Update on January 13th  – there is now a working light! Hurrah!

………

This song is dedicated to both Cheshire East Highways and Scottish Power. I hope that they will be able to work together to get a faulty street light mended, before anyone is hurt. The light is at the corner of two country lanes, where pedestrians (including children on their way to and from school) must cross diagonally to get from the footpath on one road to the footpath on the other, or cross two roads. At the crossroads, many cars coming along Hassall Road turn sharply into Pool Lane, on that unlit corner.

This street light has not been working for two years, despite repeated requests for it to be fixed (eg. 22nd December 2014, 10th March 2015, 4th April 2016, 5th December 2016 …. ). The issue appears to be that it is not the local authority’s responsibility in this case but the electricity board’s. The process is that the incident must be referred to them by the LA, not directly by the public. Cheshire East claim they have done this (history does not record when, though). However, the electricity board, Scottish Power, say they have been waiting for Cheshire East to supply them with a particular piece of equipment. That’s now been supplied but I don’t know when that happened (before or after I started banging on about things?) Still no day notified for a fix. It is not clear why there has been such a delay …..

Tuesday 20th December 2016 – Update: I have been told that the work will be done – by the first week in January 2017.

From SP Energy: Monday 12th December 2016: “We’ll look into this with our streetlighting team tomorrow and get back to you asap then.”

Wednesday 14th December: “No feedback as yet from Streetlighting Dept, will try to get some details for you today.”

Thursday 15th December: “We’ve made further enquiries with our colleagues in our Customer Resolution team; they’ve been able to track down the job with the local council. It appears we had been waiting for the council to drop off some equipment in order complete the work, this equipment has now been delivered to our depot. Once we get the programme date, we will update you.”

“We are still awaiting further details from our Customer Resolution Team, who will be back in the office on Monday (19th).”

Hurrah! Tuesday 20th December 2016: “We have received notification from Street Lighting advising the work should be completed first week in January.”

 Watch this space ….

.

A ray of hope flickers in my eye
Is there a chance we’ll get a light on high?
All along the lane, people sigh and frown
They fear the day when a child’s run down.

And Cheshire East say it’s not their role,
They say they’ve been to check the wooden pole.
For a fix, it seems it’s down to Scottish Power
Let’s hope they come before a child’s last hour.

There’s no set date for when it will be fixed
You have to feel you’re way down on their list
For a year or two our plea’s been unfulfilled
How will they feel when a child is killed?

And all of this has been going on since 2014
And the village is waiting
Waiting for one bulb –
Blue, white, yellow, no one cares,
But we hope for a light that will work and turn shadows to light
Risk to security, dimness to illumination
And give everyone a chance to see where they’re going …..
Darkness and stumbling would be forgotten forever.

It’s all a dream, with promises for now
It might get done, some day soon somehow
All along the lane, people sigh and frown
They fear the day when a child’s run down

……

Based on: A ray of hope flickers in the sky
A tiny star lights up way up high
All across the land dawns a brand new morn
This comes to pass when a child is born

A silent wish sails the seven seas
The winds of change whisper in the trees
And the walls of doubt crumble tossed and torn
This comes to pass when a child is born

A rosy hue settles all around
You’ve got the feel you’re on solid ground
For a spell or two no-one seems forlorn
This comes to pass when a child is born

And all of this happened
Because the world is waiting
Waiting for one child
Black, white, yellow, no one knows
But a child that would grow up and turn tears to laughter
Hate to love, war to peace
And everyone to everyone’s neighbour
Misery and suffering would be forgotten forever

It’s all a dream and illusion now
It must come true, sometimes soon somehow
All across the land dawns a brand new morn
This comes to pass when a child is born.
